MIDDLETOWN—On Monday, March 27, 2017 the Middletown City Schools Athletic Department will host Opening Day ceremonies for the Middies baseball and softball teams at the newly renovated Lefferson Park complex.
The Middies new home located at 2201 S. Breiel Boulevard is part of a joint partnership land swap with the City of Middletown, while also in coordination with $96 million construction project that voters approved on May 6, 2014.
This season’s spring campaign will mark a new era for these coveted sports and will be celebrated amid pageantry.
Opening Day pregame festivities will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. and will include: Guest speakers, a ceremonial first pitch, and the National Anthem will be performed by Middletown senior Zayion Hyman. A local food truck will also be on site with concessions available.
First pitch will be thrown at 5 p.m. for both baseball and softball. The varsity baseball team will host Greater Miami Conference rival Hamilton, while softball will welcome Lakota East.
The Middies will also play two other headline contests in premier venues this season.
On Wednesday, April 19 Middletown and Oak Hills are two of 84 local programs who will partake in the sixth annual 47-game Skyline Chili Cincinnati Reds Futures High School Showcase.
That game will be held at Legacy Field at Prasco Park in Mason at 7:30 p.m.
On Monday, April 24 the Middies return to the big stage as they’ll clash with GMC foe Lakota East at Fifth Third Field in Dayton at 7 p.m.
Excitement surrounding the Lady Middies softball facility upgrades are at an all-time high too.
“Our new facility is a hallmark beginning for a new era in Middletown softball,” said head coach Tyler Callahan. “We are determined to take our program to new heights and keep it there consistently.”
On Saturday, April 22 at 12 p.m. the Lady Middies will also partake in the Skyline Chili Cincinnati Reds Futures High School Showcase.
“We’re excited to participate in the Skyline Chili Cincinnati Reds Showcase too,” Callahan continued. “They’ve done an excellent job promoting the sport of softball, and we’re honored add our team to an impressive lineup of competition.”
Middletown will battle Seton High School at the P&G Cincinnati MLB Youth Academy located at 2026 E Seymore Ave in Cincinnati.
