MIDDLETOWN — The Middletown High School varsity baseball and softball teams have officially reached the final week regular season play.
Both sports look to capitalize on this week’s games to gain momentum as they head into the postseason tournament.
The varsity softball team (7-14, 2-12 GMC) enters the postseason as the No. 20 seed in the southwest district athletic board Dayton (3) D-I bracket.
The Lady Middies will face the No. 5 Edgewood (Trenton) Lady Cougars (14-5, 8-2 SWOC) at Edgewood High School on Monday, May 8 at 5 p.m.
The winner of the Round 1 game will advance to play No. 5 Hamilton (11-11, 7-8 GMC) on Wednesday, May 10. That game site is to-be-determined.
“We’ve made good progress this season,” said head coach Tyler Callahan.
“We’re continuing to lay a foundation for success through developmental fundamentals. The team is working hard and learning that preparation and execution is key to competing at a high level in our conference.
“Our league play certainly prepares us for the postseason. We haven’t gotten caught up in the postseason seeding positions.
“We’re simply going to show up at Edgewood on Monday with the mindset of playing the best softball we can,” Callahan concluded.
The varsity baseball team (4-17, 1-14 GMC) is slotted as the No. 29 seed in the southwest district athletic board Cincinnati (1) D-I bracket.
The Middies will face No. 26 seed Princeton (7-16, 1-14 GMC) at Princeton High School on Tuesday, May 9 at 5 p.m.
The winner of the Round 1 game will advance to play No. 1 seed Moeller (16-3, 5-1 GCL)on Thursday, May 11. That game site is also to-be-determined.
