The Boys Varsity Bowling team finished 4th in the Southwest District Sectionals Tournament today at Crossgate Lanes!
The format for the tournament is 3 regular games and 6 Baker games, with the top 7 out of 16 teams advancing to the next level. There are also 7 individuals that get to advance based on total pinfall from bowlers that are not part of the 7 teams already advancing. There were 16 teams from the Cincinnati area. There was a special oil pattern that is only seen at the end of the season tournament, so the lanes were pretty tough, but the boys were able to figure them out pretty quickly.
The boys came out firing the 1st game and shot a team total of 1028, putting them ahead of everyone! Game 2 and 3 were also pretty good, with a 920 & 909, and still in 1st place before the Baker round! Junior Austin Smith didn’t have too much trouble tearing up the lanes with an amazing 252 game, then a 204, and very nice 222 game, for a 678 series and a 226 average! Austin also finished as the HIGHEST bowler of the tournament! Way to go! Sophomore Ethan Rowe also had no trouble figuring out how to rip out on awesome 236 game, a 203, and a 204, for a 643 total and a 214.33 average! Great job! Junior James Prater started his set with a nice 210, followed it up with another nice game of 193, and then rolled a 163! Junior Matthew Minor was consistent with his scores, posting a 160, 172, & 186! And Junior Jacob Cowgill helped the team stay on top with his 1st game score of 170! Awesome job boys!
The Baker round started off fine, and we were still in 1st place after the initial 3 games, but then the lanes changed drastically and scores were lower for the final 3. Overall, the team did very well, led the whole tournament to the very end, and will be advancing to the District Championship tournament next week together on Wednesday at Beaver-Vu Bowl in Beavercreek! Go Middies!
