Boys Varsity Bowling · Boys Varsity Bowling take 1st place at Cov Cath Team Challenge!!!

The Boys Varsity Bowling team are CHAMPIONS of the Covington Catholic Team Challenge tournament held today in Erlanger, Kentucky!

The format for this tournament is 2 regular games, then bowl the best 2 out of 3 Bakers in a head-to-head bracket until a champion is determined. There were 26 teams participating today, mostly from Kentucky, but 3 from Ohio.

Saying that our boys team had a great day just isn’t enough! They were the #1 seed after 2 regular games, received a 1st round bye in Baker elimination round, and then ran through the field until they won the whole tournament! So awesome! And to add to all of that, our Senior Austin Smith made the All-Tournament team, shooting scores of 178 and an amazing 259, for a 437, and a 218.5 average!

Senior James Prater had a good day on the lanes while throwing games of 209 & 201, for a 410 series! Fellow Senior Matthew Minor was only 1 pin behind him with a 207 & 202 and a 409! Junior Ethan Rowe was 1 pin behind Matthew, with games of 184 & a very nice 224, and a 408! And Junior Lawson tossed in a nice 179 game to help the boys get the #1 seed!

After the bye, the boys went the distance against Harrison County, 2 games to 1. Then came Pendleton County, where they bested their opponent 2-0. The next round started off with a loss, but they came storming back with a 222 & 249 to move to the finals against another team from Ohio, Elder. This team was not going to just give it to us, we had to earn it! We won the first game 198-154, lost the 2nd game 205-199, but then won the match and tournament by defeating the Panthers 215-150!

Coach Cupp would like to say that he is VERY PROUD of his team today! This one they deserve! They came together, stuck together, cheered each other on, and made the important shots when needed!

The boys come back home for a match on Monday against Norwood. Start time will be approximately 4:00pm. Come on out and cheer your Middies to victory!
