Boys Varsity Bowling · Boys Varsity Bowling place 4th at Sweet 16 Tournament!

The Boys Varsity Bowling team took 4th place today out of 15 teams at the Sweet 16 tournament at Poelking Lanes South!

The format is 2 regular games, then 2 Baker games, followed by lunch, and then head-to-head best 3 out 5 Baker games until a champion is determined.

Today’s pattern was a tough one and could possibly be what is used in this year’s Sectionals and Districts tournament at the end of the season. The boys struggled a little in the 1st regular game, shooting only an 802 total, but came back strong in game #2 with a 924! They then posted a nice 210 & 173 for the 2 Baker games.

Senior Ethan Rowe had a great 2 game set, with scores of 203 & 235, which placed him at #4 overall for the tournament and make the All-Tournament team! Great job! Junior Dylan Wood bowled the 2nd highest game of the day with a very nice 212! Senior Luke Lawson threw 2 good games of 179 & 155! Senior Tyler Jurmu rolled a 159 & 152, and Senior Braeden Wills shot a 170! This put our Middies at 7th place before the break!

Now for the fun part! First up after lunch was Vandalia Butler #2. The boys came out firing with some incredible Baker scores, shooting a 235, 248, 167, and 234 to take the match 3 games to 1! Next, we had to go up against Vandalia Butler #1 on a different pair of lanes. The wheels fell off from the start, as we lost the first and second game, with only 1 game of being eliminated. BUT, the boys didn’t give up and came back firing again to win the last 3 games and the right to move on! Then we faced a great team from Celina. Unfortunately, missing too many easy spares cost us big time, and ended the day for us, losing the match 0-3.

The team came together again today and supported each other from start to finish. Everyone got a chance to bowl and everyone played their part in getting the 4th place finish! Great job boys!

They will next take on Lakota West at Gilmore Lanes on Wednesday for another GMC match-up.
